The Virginia Police Defense Fund
is many things to working police officers,
while providing support and resources to officers
to help them and their families with the challenges
and hurdles that come with a life in public safety.

The fund offers:

• Funding for continuing education: We understand the life maxim that: "If you’re not moving forward, you’re losing ground." The changing landscape in the world of law enforcement means officers must constantly learn the latest information and techniques to maintain the highest degree of public safety. We offer the support and resources needed, not just to advance their careers through education and training, but to allow them to improve their performance and strengthen the overall public safety programs. Dollars spent on education and career training are returned many times over.

• Funding used for departmental equipment: At a time when many departments are forced to make tough choices due to budgetary constraints, the VA PDF works to assist my helping purchase needed equipment, such as in-car radios and safety vests. While we can’t take the place of responsible department budgets, offering equipment and help where it is needed is a fist step in allowing public safety departments to do the best job possible.

• Funding for needed financial support to officers and their families: It’s no secret that police work is dangerous. Officers can never let their guard down, and still there are unfortunate circumstances that harm them and their families. The VA PDF works hard to be there for them whenever they are injured on the job or meet an untimely death. We supply financial aid and aid programs for officers and their families at a time when they are needed the most. We ask so much of our officers; being there for them in there time of greatest need is one way to help and show our gratitude.

• Legal fees and quality legal representation for support and assistance to officers: Risky situations and split-second decisions often leave officers susceptible to "second-guessing" and baseless charges from suspects. Often the many regulations and processes leave them feeling alone as they face a difficult situation. The VA PDF helps provide some of the resources needed to help officers protect their jobs and reputations.
